31 Aug NATIONAL SURF LIFESAVING RESCUE OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR CANNINGS LIFESAVER
Cannings Director, Nigel Kassulke (on right in the yellow patrol shirt) has received an Australian National Rescue of the Month surf lifesaving award.
Nigel has been a surf lifesaver for “very many” years and was recognized for saving the life of an unconscious swimmer late one Summer evening on Manly Beach in Sydney earlier this year.
The patient had been swept out to sea after patrols had finished and was found lying face down and unconscious by surfers who paddled her back to shore on their surfboards.
Having been hailed by beachgoers as he was returning home after a patrol and still in uniform Nigel, along with another two local surf lifesavers, began working on the patient until paramedics arrived and the patient was helicoptered to intensive care.
The patient – a young mother of two – made a full recovery.
Here’s a photo of Nigel receiving his award from the Australia’s Governor General, Peter Cosgrove.
Well done Nigel!
