It’s been described by the media as Sydney Harbour’s best kept secret – a gem waiting to be discovered.
It’s the former HMAS Platypus site at North Sydney, which is now part of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.
The 1.8 hectare site, which has been variously a gas works, a torpedo factory and a submarine base, has been locked up from the public for 150 years.
Cannings worked closely with the Harbour Trust to help them unveil this Sydney “gem” to the media – and the public.
The launch was part of a national campaign calling for Expressions of Interest from commercial, cultural and community groups wanting to be part of what will now be known as Sub Base Platypus.
