BOARDROOM BATTLES; JOB TITLES GET CREATIVE

BOARDROOM BATTLES; JOB TITLES GET CREATIVE

Welcome to this week’s business and media intelligence update.

JOB TITLES GET CREATIVE

The rise of remote work, coupled with churning in the labour market, has led to the creation of new – and ahem … – unusual job titles.

Since the start of the pandemic, LinkedIn has seen a 304 per cent spike in titles that reference “hybrid work” and a 60 per cent increase in those related to the future of work.

Among our favourites: Head of Team Anywhere, Chief Heart Officer, Head of Dynamic Work and Vice President of Product Evangelism. Is Chief of Holidays taken?

WINTER OFFICE WOES

Winter waves of Omicron and the flu plus a flurry of wet weather have managed to push office vacancy rates down in July – for the first time in six months.

According to a Property Council of Australia report, occupancy levels in Melbourne fell to just over a third last month, with Sydney and Brisbane both dropping to around 50 per cent.

However, Property Council chief executive Ken Morrison remains optimistic that workers will soon be back behind their office desks now that Omicron case numbers appear to have peaked, and spring is just around the corner.

PICTURES SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

Yes, it is true – young people are spending more time online but are fast turning away from once-popular apps, according to a survey by US think-tank Pew Research Centre

While veteran platform YouTube remains the most liked, teens are snubbing text-heavy apps such as Facebook, Tumble and Twitter for the likes of Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok, which rely mostly on images or videos.

Despite the number of young people who are “almost constantly” online nearly doubling since 2014-2015, the majority believe they spend the right amount of time scrolling social media.

Their parents might beg to differ…

ONE LAST THING…
