NEW REGULATIONS FOR BANKING?; TELSTRA SHIFTS FROM CORPORATE TO PLAYFUL

NEW REGULATIONS FOR BANKING?

The Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) semi-annual Financial Stability Review has outlined Australia’s financial regulators are actively monitoring the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) within the banking sector, Bloomberg reports.

The RBA has identified four key risks associated with AI: operational risk, herd behaviour, a rise in credible misinformation and scams and the complexity and opaqueness of AI.

Current AI use is already being regulated in Australia, but the RBA says more specific initiatives may be needed as concerns that aren’t addressed by the current framework grow.

“How AI-related risks could interact with other risks and vulnerabilities in the…financial system…is largely unknown as there is limited relevant experience to draw on,” the report said.

TELSTRA SHIFTS FROM CORPORATE TO PLAYFUL

Telco giant Telstra is steering away is launching an imaginative, animated campaign titled “Wherever We Go”.

Developed by Telstra’s bespoke agency, +61, and including work from Oscar-nominated animators, the campaign signifies the company’s move to emotionally connect with consumers in a way it hasn’t done before. According to chief marketing officer, Brent Smart, it captures the “spirit of optimism and partnership”, showing how even the “biggest brands can be imaginative”.

The whimsical ads will be featured across multiple platforms, with an animated TVC set to debut during the AFL grand final in the hopes that a fresh, playful campaign will help convert sceptics into loyal customers.

JOHN MULANEY ROASTS SALESFORCE AT ANNUAL CONVENTION

Technology company Salesforce found itself with egg on its face when they hired John Mulaney to perform at their Dreamforce annual convention. The Emmy-award-winning comedian roasted his hosts, mocking the company for its inflated titles, vague language, and AI aspirations, in a performance that quickly went viral.

It’s not the first time that Salesforce has brought comedians in to headline their corporate conferences, with Seth Meyers performing a similarly raucous set at last year’s conference, but Jason Douglas, founder of corporate events booking agency Comedian Company, warns that allowing celebrities onto your corporate stage can be risky.

A cautionary tale, perhaps, for companies planning their next corporate conference.
